Top 3 Reasons to Get a New Roof

Home / Guelph Roofing / Top 3 Reasons to Get a New Roof

There are many good reasons to get a new roof for your home. Sometimes it’s easy to know when it’s time to replace your roof because shingles are blowing off and animals are finding new homes in your attic. Other times you may be thinking of improving your energy efficiency, upgrading to install solar panels, or simply selling your home.

Here are LP Platinum’s top three reasons to replace your roof:

  • Storm damage
Wind, hail, and debris can cause damage to your roof. Missing shingles, broken seals between shingles, and indentations (sometimes called dimples) and cracks are cause for concern. If the damage is serious, you may also need to have a professional examine the supporting structure beneath the shingles. Damaged wood support beams and plywood will need to be replaced to ensure the roof is secure and load-bearing.
  • Shingles are curling, buckling, blistering, or splitting.
When the edges of your singles are turning upwards or the middle of the shingle is bowing, that’s not good news. Equally bad, if not worse, are split or cracked shingles. When these issues happen it means that the lifespan of your shingles is winding down and leaking could start happening, if it hasn’t already.
  • Increasing your home’s value
Installing a new roof gives your home a facelift. It’s a great way to enhance your curb appeal. A new roof will also have energy efficiency benefits as new technology allow for the reflection of solar heat which lowers interior cooling costs and extends the life of your shingles. Newer roofing shingles also provide longer warranties than ever before. This means new homeowners will have less to worry about — that peace of mind is worth a lot to the buyer and results in a better bottom line for the seller.

That is really interesting that redoing my roof is like a facelift which will give better curb appeal and provide energy efficiency. My husband and I have thought about getting a new roof because it’s been pretty damaged over the years and especially after the last storm. Thanks for the great article that we could both go over to figure out if a new roof is the right choice for us.

My wife and I have been thinking about getting a roof replacement, and I’m glad that you talked about a storm being a good reason to have it done. We had a storm roll through a couple weeks ago that caused some damage to our roof, and I’ve been worried about it ever since. I think that being able to get a roof replacement done would be good for me, and would help us to be able to get some peace of mind with the winter coming! Thanks!

It was a bit relieving the reason why my shingles are curling are probably that of how old the house is. I’ve been worried that it’s being caused by something else. I’m glad that I found out my roof needs to get replaced, so I can start focusing on a solution.

I agree with what you said about how you shingles that are blowing off can be a sign that a roofing replacement is needed. My husband checked our roof and noticed that there are shingles on the roof that are cracked shingles. We don’t want to wait for the water to leak down the house. I’ll make sure that the issue with our roof will be taken care of immediately by contacting a roofing contractor to replace our roof. Thanks for sharing your article.

You got my attention when you said that you should consider replacing your roof if you noticed that the edges of its shingles are turning upwards because it’s an indication that the leaking could start happening. There are shingles on the roof of our house that are damaged and have cracks. I don’t want to wait for the problem to get worse, so I will make sure to have our damaged roof replaced by a roofing contractor as soon as possible.

The need for new roofing is more obvious in some cases than others, but the decision is always important. Roof installation or replacement is a significant investment that has a big impact on the appearance, value and function of our home. That’s why it’s important to replace your roof at the right time.

My area is going through a massive heatwave and, I don’t know if this happened this year or if it’s just been going on for a while without my noticing, but I checked the shingles and they’re definitely starting to show signs of curling and blistering. We haven’t had leaking yet; we haven’t had rain yet. Nevertheless, I’ll definitely take your advice and start looking for a roofer in my area to get the roof replaced. On the bright side, that does give me the opportunity to give my roof that “facelift” effect you mentioned, and it’ll be nice to have that warranty for if the heat does any damage to the new roof.
